New York City’s Build it Back Program is the assisting homeowners, landlords and tenants in the five boroughs whose primary homes were damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Funded by the Federal Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Bill passed by Congress, the goal of the Program is to help residents return to safe, sustainable housing by addressing unmet housing needs.

CSA is one of the principal subcontractors to Sullivan Land Services (SLS) that has a contract with the Department of Design and Construction (DDC), serving as the project execution agency on behalf of the Housing Recovery Office (HRO) for Staten Island. HRO/DDC is identifying up to 705 single family homes for rehabilitation, elevation or reconstruction.

CSA‘s responsibilities are to provide architecture, engineering design, permitting and project management assistance to expedite execution. Throughout the design effort, the team is working to maintain a sense of community while addressing serious design and infrastructure constraints, while delivering innovative urban designs. The SLS team faces design challenges in each community to address resiliency aspects, local zoning requirements, environmental considerations and the homeowner’s needs.
