PRDE A/E Modernization for Six Next Generation School Campuses

Humacao Region, Puerto Rico

The Department of Education’s modernization services for schools is an initiative part of the broader reconstruction and modernization process of PRDE’s school campuses, known as the Next Generation School Campuses, and is a response to the devastating effects of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, as well as the earthquakes that struck Puerto Rico in 2020, and the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. These schools have suffered severe damages to their classrooms and administrative offices, resulting in disrupted operations and negative impacts on students, staff, families, and the local community.

Through the collaboration between PRDE and CSA, these schools will be transformed into safe and functional learning spaces. The modernization projects will not only address the immediate challenges but also contribute to the long-term sustainability and resilience of the school campuses. This investment reflects PRDE’s commitment to providing high-quality education in a safe environment for the students and staff of the Humacao Region.

The selected schools for the modernization projects are: José Campeche High School, San Lorenzo,Carmen Benítez Elementary School, Georgina Baquero School, Ana Delia Flores Vocational High School, Rafalina E. Lebrón Flores High School, Patillas, and Irma Pedraza Middle School,

CSA will provide full-service A/E modernization design, construction administration, and permitting at all six project locations. The focus will be on implementing hazard mitigation best practices to ensure the schools’ resilience against natural disasters prevalent in Puerto Rico. This will involve repairing and upgrading the infrastructure to effectively meet the needs of students and staff, while also protecting the schools from further damage and enhancing their resiliency features.
